While I was mindlessly scrolling the Netflix Originals section, I stumbled upon this film. When I read the plot, I thought of giving it a try as we rarely watch films that are not promoted well. Since small-budget films are usually good, I didn’t want to miss a good film just because no one has spoken about it.
Though I regretted watching it later, this film is something that should be brought to people’s attention. No, not because it’s worth your time, but because it being on a platform like Netflix is both, concerning and disturbing.
Regardless of its story and what the makers were trying to say, Jaoon Kahaan Bata Ae Dil is gross, when it comes to language and also in the portrayal of the message. And please don’t dare tell me that there is a section in the society that speaks like that. I am not talking about the foul language here. Even the characters’ psyche is filthy. So there cannot be an argument around “THE MESSAGE” that the makers want to send out. Clearly, there was no message here. And oh, the dialogues! I think the dialogues were written with the intention that just in case the sex scenes are not vulgar enough, the dialogues would cover it up.
What’s objectionable? A porn film that’s not being called a porn film and rape that is not being called rape. And even if you take it as rape, there is a justification there: the woman asked for it. Yes, there is a scene where the woman asks her boyfriend to rape her while having sex. If that isn’t sick enough, here is something that will make you feel sick for sure:
As the couple fights, while having sex, the man loses his temper, breaks the glass bottle on his girlfriend’s head, and rapes her while she lies unconscious. What’s in the next scene? The couple is traveling back home by a local train where the woman, in a shocked state of mind is staring out of the window and the man is resting his head on her shoulder. And after some time the man proposes marriage to the woman. Why? Because after raping her, he suddenly realizes that no woman would ever love him like she does. Now whether she accepts or rejects the proposal is another story but did the story demand this cynicism? No, this was absolutely not needed.
I wonder why do, most of the time, in the name of art and realism, only obscenity is sold. Can no story be told without humiliating or raping a woman? Is that the only way a man takes out his frustration? Why is it that people think that it’s only sex that a woman might want when she is upset with her man? Why is it ok to touch her without her consent to calm her down? And this is not just one film, there are so many films and web series out there that are normalizing toxicity and violence.
Films like Jaoon Kahan Bata Ae Dil are not society’s mirror. They talk not about the society but your own mentality and the sick state of mind, dear writers and makers of all such films. If you say that your film is based on reality or even real events for that matter, I would agree; but this vulgarity, obscenity, and filth has come out of your mind. You have not shed light on the unfortunate happenings in society in any way. You have only dumped more garbage into the dustbin. If you cannot clean the bin at least do not add more garbage to it.
