Hundred Review

If lockdown has disturbed your sleep pattern and you have already turned cranky, don’t watch this show. Hundred will further add to your crankiness.

I am still wondering whom to blame or whom to curse for not just conceptualizing but also having the guts to release a web series like Hundred. I mean, come on, we are all locked down and hence are relying on the web for entertainment and this is what we get in return for putting our faith in the medium? Pathetic. 

Hundred looks like a failed attempt to recreate Rush Hour and Main Khiladi Tu Anari with women in lead. While these two movies were complete entertainers, this web series is a complete disaster. When a creative project succeeds, it’s always a team effort. Similarly, when it fails, it’s a team effort. When many of the web series or films don’t turn out the way they should have, you can pinpoint what went wrong – the story was weak, the director didn’t do the job right, the actors were not up to the mark, and so on. There is always one or the other good thing to talk about which balances out the bad. With Hundred, the scenario is different. Every aspect is equally bad.

Speaking of the direction, it’s bad. Talk of the actors, they are horrible. What about the story? There isn’t any. Remember this dialogue from the movie Yes Boss? Do kamzor log milke ek kamyaab zindagi nahi bana sakte? In that case, teen kamjor kadiya milke ek successful web series kaise bana sakte hai? 

More than anything else, I would like to talk about the cast over here. The team should have predicted the failure of Hundred the moment they finalized their cast – Lara Dutta and Rinku Rajguru. When you give two strong characters to two weak actors, it will not strike a chord with the audience, no matter how hard the other actors work. 

We have seen Lara Dutta earlier and unfortunately, she failed to impress us in the past as well. Hundred is not an exception to that. Speaking of the Sairat fame actor, Rinku Rajguru, it looks like she would bag a few projects only because of Sairat. I remember Hrithik Roshan in each of his interviews after Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai had said that he is afraid he will be a one-film wonder. His fears soon became his reality. The success did not last long. His movies failed back to back and even after being an excellent actor, neither did his success nor did his fame sustained. If this could happen to someone like Hrithik Roshan, who was not just a fab actor but also belonged to the industry, Rinku Rajguru has just started. Not to forget, she is also an outsider which means she might not get n number of chances to hone her skills.

Recently, her Marathi movie Makeup was released. In the trailer, there was a scene where she was drunk. People couldn’t stand her even in the trailer. Yes, it was that bad. In Hundred, that same ‘intolerable’ performance continued.

I watched the entire series just because I had to review it but most of the viewers wouldn’t be able to watch past even the first episode. All thanks to the overdose of Rinku Rajguru in the very first episode and her poor acting skills. 

When actors do such a bad job, it is a Director’s job to cover it up for them. There are bad actors who do a fab job on the screen when they get the right Director and great actors fail when they work with the wrong Director. 

When it comes to casting, the directors did not just fail to make their actors perform. Their judgement has also gone drastically wrong. Where good actors like Arun Nalawade, Parmeet Sethi, and Makrand Deshpande are given such less screen space and non-actors like Rinku Rajguru and Lara Dutta are given full-fledged roles, the disaster was bound to happen. 

The only actor who surprised me was Karan Wahi. Web Series are doing a great job of giving TV actors a chance to act. Even though it was a small role, he has done it well. I really wish he gets a good role in a good series which will be directed by a good director. 

My take? Not worth your time.
