Chhappad Phaad Ke Review

Chhappad Phaad Ke is surprisingly different. I wouldn’t say that I loved it but I genuinely liked it. Before watching the film, I had not even watched the trailer. So I decided to trust Vinay Pathak’s choice of content and go for it.

The best part about Chhappad Phaad Ke is its ‘newness.’ Its presentation, treatment – everything was refreshing. Most of the times, when I am seeing a web series or a film, some part of it reminds me of another story – that can be a part of a novel, film, TV serial, or a web series. But not a single scene or dialogue of this film made me travel to another story, read or watched.

I remember the fight scene in the car between Sharad Gupchup (Vinay Pathak) and Shubham Gupchup (Siddharth Menon) where the question was raised: What do you get in life by being a good human being? The last scene is the answer to all this question. This was the best part of the film, though the characters were vocal about their questions, the answers: you find yourself.

I won’t talk much about the story as I don’t want to reveal even a bit of it so let’s talk about the performances now.

I don’t think there is any point talking about Vinay Pathak as we all know he is a fantastic actor. Siddharth Menon is a treat to watch. He was so convincing as Shubham that you will for a long time won’t be able to see him playing any other character.

Ayesha Raza and Sheetal Thakur as Vaishali Gupchup and Ketaki Gupchup too were good. Anuj Sullere, though was on the screen for a very short time, he has managed to leave a mark. Rest assured, you will always remember him as Paresh from Hotstar’s Chhappad Phaad Ke.

Now, the exciting and the not-so-exciting parts. The beginning was great. It was humorous and gripping. But as the story progressed, the pace slowed down. There came a point where I actually thought that the story is not going anywhere. It looked a little stretched when it neared the end. What saved it? The end. If the end wouldn’t have been shocking, I could have easily broken Chhappad Phaad Ke into two parts: funny in the beginning and boring till the end. The conclusion is, Chhappad Phaad Ke’s storyline has many surprising elements. Give it a shot. Watch it at least once.
